Built Upon A Dream - St. Elizabeth School
For decades, we have been inspired to give back to the communities we call home. Manekin Construction was honored to once again be part of the WMAR Built Upon A Dream project which coordinated their efforts for the St. Elizabeth School www.stelizabeth-school.org This historically rich Baltimore school was founded in 1881 by the Franciscan Sisters of Baltimore and inspired by the spirit of Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi and the heritage of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi. Today Saint Elizabeth School provides educational, therapeutic and vocational services for students with intellectual disabilities and other challenges as well as support services for their families and caregivers.
This inspiring project encompassed making over a more than 100 year old building and the room which used to serve as the nun's laundry facility. The room received a complete face-lift and was repurposed into a multi-functional hub complete with a classroom space for their horticulture program and a flower shop called DaiSES where the students will sell flowers and plants and will serve as an on-going job site for their mobility-challenged students. Additionally, the space will have simulated living stations including a kitchen and bathroom to help the students improve their daily living skills as well.
